I was cooking dinner last week and Jack was in our living room playing, or so I thought. I kept hearing little clanking and jingling sounds coming from the living room, and so I figured he was just playing with some plastic silverware I keep in a low cabinet for him along with some pots and pans. He was occupied for a very long time and it dawned on me that he may be up to something. I decided to go check, and it's a good thing I did. He was standing in front of this Christmas tree....
....with a big grin on his face, holding a fly swatter and swinging it vigorously at the tree knocking ornaments to the floor. The clanking and jingling noises I'd heard were the ornaments shattering as they hit the wood floor. I managed to keep calm, and thankfully he hadn't cut his feet on the glass ornaments that were shattered all around him on the floor.
Looking back now it's amusing, but at the time it was far from it:-). It's amazing to me the mischief little ones get into when you least expect it!
I especially like this Christmas tree in our home because all of the white lights and angel hair look pretty with the red Santa ornaments and brightly colored vintage balls that are hanging on it. I also have vintage Santa boots and a vintage silver tinsel star topper on it. I love putting this tree up each year. All of the ornaments on this tree are ones Jamie and I got the first year we were married. We can see it from our dining room table and it makes eating dinner each night so cozy.
What a beautiful tree. Sorry to hear about what Jack got into. Thankfully he didn't cut his feet. The excitement and curiosity sure gets the best of them this time of year! Selena has been just beside herself. I hope you did't loose too many ornaments.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I wanted to see a picture of that mess! I can just see how fun that was for him! LOL!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh that had to be a sight!
ReplyDeletemy 2 nephews use to climb their trees saying they were spiderman and it feel so many times, my sister took hers down and my SIL attached it to the wall somehow :)
like the saying goes Boys will be Boys :)
Great Mommy Brownie points for keeping your Cool!! :)
Oh my! I'm glad that you were able to keep your cool. I wouldn't have been probably. What a funny kid. And you know he was having the best time of his life.
ReplyDeleteI just read the quote saying that little boys come to this world as cute little pods from Planet Destructo. I guess there is some truth in it :) Your tree looks really pretty, and I hope that Jack didn't break any really treasured ornaments.
ReplyDeleteYour tree is beautiful. I always think it is funny to see how little kids react to the Christmas tree. Today, I know my kids won't be surprised by the tree but my dog will definitely wonder what is going on. I just hope she leaves it alone.
ReplyDeleteWHOOPS! I don't know what it is about fly swatters, but my kiddos are constantly finding them and swatting at things too. Though they haven't attacked my tree with it yet... I think I'm going to put it up high right now!
ReplyDeletewhat a little naughty! that sounds like something Z would do. it is amusing to tell after the fact but I would be on fire if I saw Z doing that...it would take every bit of restraint!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of this time the boys were around 2 and they were in their rooms theoretically napping. I kept hearing giggling, and I go in there to discover the wallpaper border I had spent HOURS putting up was shredded in pieces on their floor. I just sat down and cried. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteEven with the shattered ornaments it's a beautiful tree.
